The earliest Tropic of Cancer Monument was built in 1908, it was also the world¡¦s first monument. Bei-huei and Tai-shin elementary schools of Chiayi County celebrated this day with dramas to as the opening of this ceremony. Magistrate of Chiayi County, Ming-wen Chen led the public through the 23.5 degrees north latitude on June 3rd.
This year is the 100th year anniversary of the celebration of the Tropic of Cancer Monument. Hosted by the Chiayi county government, ¡§Summer to Chiayi, Celebrate 100th of the north latitude¡¨ ceremony¡¨. In the morning of June 1st, the event ¡§Amazing Technology Century¡¨ was hosted in the Solar Museum. In addition, competition of solar model car races was hold in the daytime and a series of celebrations in night time. One celebration included the showcase and the naming ceremony of the ¡§Chiayi¡¨ asteroid.
The expedition of the ¡§Amazing Technology Century¡¨ started on June 1st and ends on August 31st; its operating hours are from 9am to 12pm, and 2pm to 5pm (except Monday). Children are able to receive the 100th year anniversary celebration stamps from there.
On June 3rd, themed ¡§Base on the north latitude, traveling centuries in time¡¨ celebration was hosted in the central area of the county government. In addition, children of Bei-huei and Da-shin elementary school presented a drama regarding the history of the Tropic of Cancer and the outcome of the solar museum.
Ming-wen Chen noted, the Tropic of Cancer is located in the northern hemisphere the Earth's tropical and temperate climate demarcation line. Taiwan is the greatest in size of the island that the Tropic of Cancer passes through. Especially in Chiayi, located in the Shueishang township¡¦s monument is the greatest among the rest. Ming-wen Chen also presented the anniversary celebration T-shirts for his people of Chiayi. |
